Mori Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 6, 2026
Contact: service@mori.love
This Privacy Policy explains how Mori ("Mori", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information in connection with the Mori mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). Mori is a community platform that allows users to document, share, and follow stories about stray and community animals through diary-style posts, photos, and voice recordings. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the Service.
Mori is intended solely for users who are 18 years of age or older. This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given to them in the Terms of Service.
• This Policy applies to all information collected through the Mori application, our website (if any), customer support communications, and any other services that link to this Policy.
• This Policy applies globally to all users of Mori, regardless of the country from which the Service is accessed, subject to local law requirements described in Section 22.
• This Policy does not apply to third-party websites, applications, or services that may be linked from within Mori, including external Terms of Service or Privacy Policy pages opened in your device's browser.
• Use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the data practices described in this Policy. Continued use after any update to this Policy constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
• Mori is designed exclusively for adult users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly permit individuals under the age of 18 to create an account or use the Service.
• By registering, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into this Policy under the laws of your jurisdiction of residence.
• We may implement age-related verification measures, including account review, at our discretion to enforce this eligibility requirement.
• If we become aware that an account has been created or is being used by a person under the age of 18, we will suspend or terminate the account and delete associated personal data as soon as reasonably practicable.
3.1 Account Information
• Information obtained through Sign in with Apple, including a unique identifier, and, if you choose to share it, your name and a private relay or real email address.
• Profile details you choose to add, such as a display nickname, avatar image, and a short bio.
3.2 Content You Create
• Text captions, diary entries, comments, and voice recordings you submit as part of diary posts or in one-to-one chats.
• Photographs captured through your device camera or selected from your photo library and attached to diary posts, animal profiles, or chat messages.
• Animal profile details you create, including a name, species, an optional freeform location description that you type manually, and a cover photo.
3.3 Communications with Us
• Information you provide when contacting our support team, submitting a report, or responding to a survey, including the content of your message and any attachments.
4.1 Device and Technical Data
• Device model, operating system and version, unique device or advertising identifiers, mobile network information, language and locale settings, and time zone.
• App version, crash logs, diagnostic data, and performance metrics used to identify and resolve technical issues.
4.2 Usage Data
• Interactions with the Service, such as posts viewed, likes, comments, saves, follows, search queries, session length, and navigation patterns within the app.
• Coin balance, purchase history, and redemption activity related to in-app virtual currency features.
4.3 Location-Related Information
• Mori does not access, request, or collect GPS-based or precise device location data. We have no location permission integrated into the app.
• Any location associated with an animal profile is limited to free-text information that you manually type into the profile's optional location field. This text is treated as user-generated content, not as verified geolocation data.
• Approximate location may still be inferable from your IP address for security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance purposes, as described in Section 8.
• When you sign in using Sign in with Apple, Apple may share with us a token, your name, and an email address (which may be a private relay address), depending on the sharing choices you make at sign-in.
• Payment and transaction confirmation data from Apple's In-App Purchase system when you buy coin packages, limited to what is necessary to credit your account and manage receipts; Mori does not receive your full payment card details.
• Information provided by other users about you, such as when someone reports your account, blocks you, or mentions you in a message, comment, or report submission.
• Aggregated or anonymized analytics and attribution data received from analytics or advertising attribution partners, where applicable.
• Mori requests only two device permissions: Camera, used to take photographs of the animals you care for and attach them to diaries, profiles, or chats; and Microphone, used to record voice diary entries.
• Mori does not request photo library or location permissions. Images are selected through the operating system's native picker, which grants the app access only to the specific photo you select, without broader library access.
• You may enable or disable camera and microphone permissions at any time through your device settings. Disabling a permission will limit your ability to use the corresponding feature but will not otherwise restrict your use of the Service.
• Audio and image data captured through these permissions are transmitted and stored only when you affirmatively choose to attach them to a post, profile, or message; Mori does not passively record or access your camera or microphone in the background.
• To create and maintain your account, authenticate sign-in, and operate core features such as diary publishing, animal profiles, following, and messaging.
• To operate the coin-based virtual economy, including processing purchases, tracking balances, and fulfilling redemptions such as profile-slot unlocks and Memory Book exports.
• To personalize your experience, including curating the For You content feed based on your activity, interests, and engagement patterns.
• To moderate content, detect and act on prohibited material, investigate reports, and enforce our Terms of Service and community guidelines.
• To communicate with you, including sending service notices, responding to support requests, and providing updates about your account or transactions.
• To maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Service, including analyzing aggregated usage trends and diagnosing technical issues.
• To comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and protect the rights, safety, and property of Mori, our users, and the public.
• Where required by applicable law, such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation, we process personal data on one or more of the following bases: performance of a contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving a safe community platform, your consent where specifically requested, and compliance with legal obligations.
• Where processing is based on consent, such as certain optional features, you may withdraw consent at any time as described in Section 15, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
• Where we rely on legitimate interests, we balance those interests against your rights and freedoms and will not process your data in ways that are unwarranted or disproportionate.
• All diary posts, comments, animal profiles, photographs, and voice recordings you submit are stored on our servers and may be displayed to other users according to the visibility settings applicable to that content type.
• By posting content, you grant Mori a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the Service, consistent with our Terms of Service.
• You retain ownership of your original content. If you believe your copyrighted material has been used without authorization, you may submit a takedown request to service@mori.love, and we will review and respond in accordance with applicable copyright law.
• Content that violates our community guidelines, including material depicting animal abuse, graphic violence, or other prohibited content, may be removed, and repeat violations may result in account suspension or termination.
• Reported content and reported accounts are reviewed by our moderation team, and we aim to take appropriate action on valid reports within twenty-four hours of submission.
• Deleted diary posts, comments, or profiles are removed from public view immediately and are permanently purged from our active databases within a commercially reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention purposes.
• Mori is an adults-only platform. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18, and accounts identified as belonging to a minor will be removed.
• Mori maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE) material. Any content, account, message, or behavior that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits a minor is strictly prohibited and will be removed immediately upon detection.
• We use a combination of automated detection tools, proactive moderation review, and user reporting mechanisms to identify suspected CSAE content across diaries, comments, profile images, and private chats.
• Where legally required or permitted, we report confirmed or suspected CSAE material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) or other applicable law enforcement or child-protection authorities, and we cooperate fully with lawful investigations.
• Accounts responsible for CSAE violations are permanently banned, and associated evidence may be preserved and disclosed to authorities as required by law, notwithstanding our general content retention practices described elsewhere in this Policy.
• Users can report suspected CSAE content or behavior directly through the in-app Report function or by emailing service@mori.love, and all such reports are treated as high priority.
• We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
• Publicly visible content: information you choose to make public, such as diary posts, comments, profile details, likes, and follower counts, is visible to other users and may be viewed, screenshotted, or shared by them outside the Service.
• Service providers: we share information with vetted vendors who perform services on our behalf, including cloud hosting and storage, content moderation tooling, customer support platforms, analytics providers, crash-reporting tools, and payment processing through Apple, subject to confidentiality and data protection obligations.
• Legal and safety disclosures: we may disclose information where required to comply with a subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to prevent harm to a person, investigate suspected fraud or abuse, or protect the rights and safety of Mori, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers: information may be transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, subject to standard confidentiality arrangements and, where required, notice to affected users.
• With your direction: we may share information with third parties when you explicitly direct us to do so, such as when you use a feature that connects to another platform.
• Coin purchases are processed exclusively through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Mori does not directly collect or store your credit card, debit card, or other full payment credentials.
• We retain transaction metadata, such as purchase date, coin package purchased, and resulting balance, to maintain accurate records, provide customer support, and comply with financial reporting obligations.
• Coins are a digital feature of the Service with no cash value, are non-transferable and non-redeemable for cash, and purchase records are retained for as long as necessary to resolve disputes or as required by applicable consumer protection and tax law.
• Your information may be stored and processed on servers located in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate, which may have data protection laws different from those in your country of residence.
• Where we transfer personal data internationally, we implement appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms, to protect your information consistent with applicable law.
• We retain personal information for as long as your account remains active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and support legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.
• Following account deletion, we will delete or anonymize personal information within a commercially reasonable timeframe, except for data we are required to retain for legal, regulatory, tax, or safety-related reasons, including records relevant to CSAE enforcement described in Section 10.
• We implement administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including encryption of data in transit and access controls limiting internal access to personal data.
• Voice recordings, photographs, and messages are stored on secured infrastructure with restricted employee access limited to personnel who need such access to perform their job functions, such as safety and moderation review.
• No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security, and you share information with us at your own risk.
• If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
• Access and portability: you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you by contacting service@mori.love.
• Correction: you may update your profile information, nickname, avatar, and bio at any time through the Edit Profile page within the Service.
• Deletion: you may delete individual diary posts or animal profiles you created directly within the app, or request deletion of your entire account through Settings > Delete Account, or by contacting us directly.
• Withdrawal of consent: where our processing relies on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time by adjusting your device permissions, account settings, or by contacting us; this will not affect processing carried out prior to withdrawal.
• Objection and restriction: depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to object to or request restriction of certain processing of your personal information, subject to applicable legal exceptions.
• Non-discrimination: we will not deny you access to the Service or otherwise discriminate against you for exercising any of the privacy rights described in this Section.
• To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at service@mori.love. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law, and we may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.
• You may permanently delete your account at any time through Settings > Delete Account within the app, without needing to contact customer support.
• Upon confirmed deletion, your profile, animal profiles, diary posts, comments, and messages will be removed from public view, and your personal account data will be scheduled for permanent deletion from our active systems.
• Certain information may be retained after account deletion where necessary for legal compliance, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or enforcement of our Terms of Service, including content preserved in connection with active moderation or law-enforcement matters.
• Coin balances and unused purchases are forfeited upon account deletion and are not refundable, except as required by applicable consumer protection law or Apple's refund policies.
17.1 European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
• If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights under the GDPR or UK GDPR, including the rights described in Section 15, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
17.2 California and Other US State Privacy Laws
• If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Mori does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• Residents of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws may have similar rights, which we honor in accordance with applicable state law.
17.3 Other Jurisdictions
• We aim to provide consistent privacy protections to all users globally. Where local law provides additional or different rights, we will comply with those requirements for users in the applicable jurisdiction.
• The Service may contain links to external websites, such as our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, which open in your device's browser and are not governed by this Policy.
• Sign in with Apple and Apple's In-App Purchase system are operated by Apple Inc. and governed by Apple's own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review.
• We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services, and we encourage you to review their respective privacy policies before providing any information to them.
• Mori does not currently display third-party advertisements within the app.
• Because there is no standard industry protocol for recognizing Do Not Track browser or device signals, our systems do not currently respond to such signals.
• Should Mori introduce advertising or interest-based marketing features in the future, this Policy will be updated in advance to describe the relevant data practices and any applicable choices available to you.
• We use automated tools, in combination with human review, to help detect prohibited content such as graphic imagery, harassment, and CSAE material described in Section 10.
• Automated systems may flag content or accounts for review, but decisions resulting in account suspension or termination for policy violations typically involve human oversight.
• If you believe a moderation decision affecting your account was made in error, you may appeal by contacting service@mori.love.
• We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or Service features.
• Material changes will be communicated through in-app notification, a prominent notice within the Service, or via email prior to the change taking effect, where required by applicable law.
• The "Effective Date" at the top of this Policy indicates when it was last revised. Your continued use of the Service after an update becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
• We encourage you to review this Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
• Mori is available to users worldwide. By using the Service from outside the country in which our servers or service providers are located, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information as described in this Policy.
• We take reasonable steps to comply with applicable data protection laws in the regions where our users reside, including implementing appropriate contractual and technical safeguards for cross-border data transfers.
• If any provision of this Policy conflicts with mandatory local law, the mandatory local law will govern solely to the extent of the conflict, and the remaining provisions of this Policy will remain in full force and effect.
